Day trip to Lingmala Falls

The last time we visited Mahableshwar (Trip report here -> Trip to Mahableshwar and Panchgani), we did not see the Lingmala falls as it was summer season and it was then that we decided to do a trip again in monsoons. Finally we managed to plan a quick day trip this monsoon season and started by 6:30 AM. Decent roads combined with less traffic ensured that we reached Panchgani by 9:00 AM. Another 30 minutes drive and were at the entry gate to Lingmala falls.

There are proper steps built which take you right up-to the falls and is 15-20 minutes of walk. We were lucky to have the weather on our side as it was drizzling with some fog around which added to the lush green surroundings. As we closed-in the distance with the Lingmala falls, we could hear the sound of water gushing down. A few more steps and there it was..! A classic waterfall in full flow. In addition to the magnificent waterfall, one also gets some lovely views of multiple valleys.. indeed a treat to watch and perfect subject for landscape photography; the only thing you need on your side is low fog.

We were purely lucky as the fog cleared up at the same time giving us some clear views of the waterfall; which also made me take a short video.

After spending a good hour or so, we started our return journey. There is also another mini waterfall on way back along with some lovely streams.

It was around 12 PM, and we decided to head for lunch at Mapro. After a feasting on their delicious pizzas we also tried photographing flowers in their garden.

We finally started out return journey by 1:30 PM. As we drove down the hill, we could see a huge queue of vehicles (around 2 KMs); from the point where they charge entry fee to Mahableshwar. A quick tip here is to start by 7 AM or at max by 8 AM to avoid such long queues.

We also took a short break at view point – Harrisons Folly; which does offer some lovely views. Even though it was noon, the weather was overcast which meant the light was just perfect for photography.

That was our last halt for the day and we reached back home by 5 PM. If you are planning a trip to Mahableshwar this monsoons, do not miss out on this lovely waterfall. And if you are an early bird likes us, a day trip is very much possible 🙂 .

How to reach
From Pune, take the Mumbai – Bangalore highway road and drive till Surur where one needs to turn right. Follow the road till Mapro garden, Panchgani. From Mapro Garden, drive from around 6 KMs and then take the sharp left. Follow the road for around 2 KMs and you will reach the Lingmala falls entry gate.

Tips
1. For breakfast, there is a decent place for breakfast before Surur; which also has a Cafe Coffee Day. In-case you start early, you may directly halt at Mapro Garden for breakfast.
2. Do not litter and keep the place clean.
