We generally do not focus our birding session on a single species but this Sunday was different as we sighted the Vernal hanging parrot (Loriculus vernalis) – the only species of parrot found in India, and spent 3 hours photographing and observing a flock of 8 of these little beauties.
We had started a bit late this time, around 5:30 AM from Pune and with no pre-decided location in mind, it was along the journey when we decided to drive through & explore Kaldari as we had sighted a Shaheen Falcon couple of weeks back in the same region. Read more
Veer Dam is a key bird-watching hotspot around Pune; especially famous for the Bar-headed Geese & Demoiselle Cranes. We have done multiple trips to this place in different seasons and have been pleasantly surprised with some of the sightings at this place. Till date we have sighted over 170 different species of birds at Veer Dam. One of the best parts about this place is that you will get to see Waders, Raptors as well as Flycatchers in and around Veer Dam. Not many places offer such variety.. Located around 70 KMs from Pune, this place offers a good stretch of 7-8 KMs along the river Nira. This entire belt along the river is extremely rich with Avifauna.

Being a very small sanctuary (smallest in India), it can be easily covered in a day and is one of our favourite places for bird-watching as we have come across a good number of bird species as well mammals in the sanctuary. Being one of our favourite bird-watching destinations, we never miss out on Little Rann of Kutch and so was the case this year as well. We got some lovely sightings of over 100 species of birds along with some nice photographic opportunities to capture species like the Short-eared Owl, Montagu’s & Pallid Harriers, Dalmatian & Great White Pelicans, Greater & Lesser Flamingos, Greater Spotted, Steppe & Eastern Imperial Eagles and the endemic Indian Wild Ass.
Foggy mornings, Sarus Cranes, Bluebulls, Pelicans, loads of waterfowls and some mesmerising sunrise & sunset scapes is what you associate with Keoladeo National Park at Bharatpur. We at Wild India Eco Tours had one such trip with an amazing bunch of folks to this place in January 2017. Read more
