This sunday (10th June 2018), we decided to visit Kaldari. We were visiting this place after almost 10 months and every time we visit this place, we have got pleasantly surprised. Be it some relatively rare birds or some excellent photographic opportunities. This session was very similar to the previous one, some really good photographic opportunities as we came across Ashy Prinias, Red-rumped Swallows, Crested Hawk Eagle, Short-toed Snake Eagle, Black-winged Kite, Rock Bushquails and more! little beauty – Vernal hanging parrot
We generally do not focus our birding session on a single species but this Sunday was different as we sighted the Vernal hanging parrot (Loriculus vernalis) – the only species of parrot found in India, and spent 3 hours photographing and observing a flock of 8 of these little beauties.
We had started a bit late this time, around 5:30 AM from Pune and with no pre-decided location in mind, it was along the journey when we decided to drive through & explore Kaldari as we had sighted a Shaheen Falcon couple of weeks back in the same region. Read more
Wildlife at Mayureshwar Sanctuary, Pune
Situated at around 70 KMs from Pune, Mayureshwar Wildlife Sanctuary is located in Tehsil Baramati in Pune district. The sanctuary is mostly made up of dry deciduous scrub forest and has a variety of flora and fauna specific to grasslands. Being a very small sanctuary (smallest in India), it can be easily covered in a day and is one of our favourite places for bird-watching as we have come across a good number of bird species as well mammals in the sanctuary.
